Enseñanza Andina / Education from Los Andes

The Intercultural Wiñaypaq School in the Andes is located in Cusco, Peru. It was recognized in 2006 by the Ministry of Education, but they have been developing educational work since 2000. They apply the Waldorf approach, which was developed by Rudolf Steiner. Knowing the world is knowing yourself, and knowing yourself is knowing the world. Another approach they use is Montessori, both of which view students as individuals with different abilities and talents who work in teams. The best educational model motivates students to study independently, encouraging self-development and self-evaluation. There is no competition, but rather cooperation. For cooperation to exist, there must be a goal and direction, with guides to tell us where to go; these guides are the teachers. Wiñaypaq School activities also aim to educate the parents of these children, so they receive the right guidance at home as well.

Most Wiñaypaq students come from farming families. Our Earth is pure wealth, but within the current system, the connection between humans, the planet, and natural resources has not yet developed fully. These resources should be managed and operated by families and communities, not by corporations. Heirs of one of the planet's richest cultures, the students at Wiñaypaq School learn the teachings of the Incas and their ancestors. Knowledge is transmitted from generation to generation, discussing the past of our civilizations, which provides guidance for our present and helps us envision a future where "Humanity" prevails in our hearts, perpetuating the values of our ancestors.

This school requires the support of our societies, like every initiative of this nature. It is necessary for just one generation of people with a well-ingrained human essence in their hearts to transform our beloved planet into the paradise that we were told once existed. If so, it is because it is possible. The time is now.
